Our Mission

student bodySt. Francis Secondary School is dedicated to helping the poor children of Zambia by:

  • the promotion and advancement in society,
  • for interfaith disadvantaged children
  • whether orphans of AIDS parents,  or the vulnerable girl child,
  • who have no financial means of entering government or private schools
  •  and thereby bringing hope to their lives
  • through education and Christian values.

The Need

Thousands of Zambian children are orphaned and vulnerable, often due to the deaths of AIDS parents. Family and relatives normally take the orphaned children into their homes where most of them can hardly feed and house even their own children. The orphans have the desire to learn but usually no opportunity to enter the government or private schools due to the lack of money for the demand of fees, uniforms, shoes. The lack of opportunity to enter school can lead them into the streets where they begin begging for their food and needs.

Progress to date on this site has been great. THANK YOU

The slde show of pictures is nice, but I belileve the site will be more informative if it has some describition of each picture. (and a possible “sales” story the picture covers)

I also believe we should have one or two pictues with each “topic” of TEACHERS, STUDENTS, HISTORY to how the readers interest while they are reading thru all of the “button” topics.

I believe pcitures showing historical PROGRESS of the schcool from a physical plant perspective over the last few years give real creditibility to the progress of the school Thank you,

    Jerry Hellmann

Br Tony,..the Janitor! I found your site!
I am blown away ! :) It is far beyond amazing what you have done here in this place. No wonder you look so young….1600 plus kids are pouring their loving energy into you. I agree with the one post….the web site would be enriched if you gave info on the photos plus give some short captions on when you began in Zambia ( got any pictures back then !?!?) And posting how many children you had on such and such a date, and perhaps post updates of what happened 5 – 10- 15 – 20 years. down the journey road. I don’t even remember how long you have been serving there. I have known you for at least 5 years. Maybe post what has happened to some graduates of your school…don’t need to mention names if privacy is an issue. Maybe do some profiles on teachers. Their comments on teaching etc. I think “The Hippo, Willie who came to Mass”, would make a good writing contest that the kids could do .
late…may God give you all you need and want to continue your incredible mission.

Tony; this a great record of achievement, and a marvellous testament to your commitment to the School and all those who attend it and care for it. We have seen it grow with you and our proud of the support our Franciscan Parish in the UK has given you.

Re the comment on old photos with explanations; I have quite a number you have sent to me over the years in digital format if these would be helpful.

    God Bless

    Penny Waterloo
I started a school for orphans who had no education and wandered the streets in the Copperbelt of Zambia in 2000. The years after that have made me a beggar, pleading for help for these orphans. Today we have a big secondary school with 1,540 orphans and vulnerable students with over 30 trained teachers. I can hardly get my nose above water, much less think of similar problem in Kenya.
I have seen your appeals coming to me from every angle, even sent on to me from our mission office in the States and thought that you would realize that a missionary with no salary or subsidy in an African country like Zambia will not have means to be able to send out of the country.

Great to be in personal touch with you, after so many years at the Friary Chilworth, Surrey, now closed! Sad. Avoidable.

      Dear Tony,
From this Tony. I just found your comments on the web site. I haven’t opened it for a while and found 90 spams to be deleted.
Yes, your donation came through PayPal. With many thanks. The school continues to make great progress. We have just received 6 new (newly trained) teachers who will make a greater contribution to the school education. I have a possible opportunity to be given a large plot of land with long concrete slabs and 1 meter concrete walls already built. If so, it will be a great boost for our big need for teachers houses. I haven’t even gotten the information to Wayne Kitcat yet – waiting to see if we can obtain the property which has been abandoned for 8 years.
It is truly sad about the closure of your charming little parish at Chilworth. Wish we could have sent you a couple of our young Zambian priests for the continuation of the parish.
With thanks again for your kind donation.
      Bro. Tony

Bro Tony, Used incorrect email on last donation. Trust it arrives, and that you and the school, are all in good health, and still happy about your change of government.
